Due to award airfare, I ended up with an extra 3 days at the end of planned itinerary & have to backtrack a bit up to Basel. Hotels all pre-booked, so don't want to change itinerary, except to add a new ending. Any thoughts on where to spend 3 nights between Varenna and Basel? (Note: no car.) We'll have stayed on 4 lakes & up in mountains by this time. What would not be too redundant after all of that? We love beautiful places, waterfalls, gardens, charming villages/cities, off the beaten path is great (we just need to be able to get to it with public transport or car service.) Any suggestions not too far off the route between Varenna and Basel?
