Planning a visit to the Jungfraujoch

I'll be departing from Lauterbrunnen and I want to take advantage of the early morning ticket, but I do not need a roundtrip ticket. I want take the train back from the Jungfraujoch until Kleine Scheidegg and from there hike for a while, until Allmend station or Wengen. And then go back to Lauterbrunnen at my own leisure.

According to the site, a full Lauterbrunnen-Jungfraujoch early morning roundtrip ticket is 135CHF. If I buy a one-way Lauterbrunnen-KS ticket (30CHF) and then a KS-Jungfraujoch roundtrip ticket (95) I'll save a few francs, but is this worth it considering I need to be at either the 8:00 or 8:30 train departing KS to take advantage of the early morning? I don't know what to expect in terms of lines, but buying separate tickets will give me one more line to waste time on.

At what time should I leave Lauterbrunnen to be able to catch the 8:00 or 8:30 early morning train comfortably?

Thanks!

Agreed that you might not want to pay this price (and possibly miss your hotel breakfast) if the weather doesn't pan out.

In order to make a connection at Kleine Scheidegg at 8:00 or 8:30, you have to take the train departing Lauterbrunnen by 7:07 or 7:37. The DB or SBB train schedule searches give you connection times.

I'm aware that weather neesd to be good. I'll check with my hotel before leaving.

How are the lines usually this early at KS? Both trains arrive just 10 minutes before the departure to the Jungfraujoch, I wonder if that is enough time to buy the ticket in case I have to take the 7:27 train from Lauterbrunnen.

Do you think it's better to pay a little more and just buy the full roundtrip ticket at Lauterbrunnen to avoid ticket-buying at KS?

Buy all tickets in Lauterbrunnen. Swiss stations are well computerized and a second ticket line should not be necessary. Others can report if they have done this connection recently, but I don't think they'd offer an early bird discount if that departure was going to fill up at regular price.

You can check it yourself as you are getting dressed. Most hotels have TVs in the rooms, and there is a channel devoted to mountaintop cameras. They pan around, you get nice music, and they display the current weather at the summit too, so you can know if you will need that extra layer (you will).

Regarding your tickets, I agree that you should easily be able to get everything in one place. No need for extra queueing.

Even if your hotel doesn't offer summit cams, the internet is full of them.
