We have a trip planned this fall, already have a rental car booked (visiting 3 countries). Want to park at the Kriens Valley Station and go up to Pilatus on the railway for a 1 night stay and come down on the gondolas to Alpnachstad station to get the view both ways. Will there be taxis at the station so that we can get back to our car at Kriens Valley?

Basically you want a Silver Round Trip with overnight at the summit, but you have the stations confused.
You start at the Luzern train station ( leave your car there) and take the train to Alpnachstad, where the cogwheel train starts. Overnight at Pilates Kulm. The gondola returns you from the Pilates summit to Kriens and down to the valley station. There you take a bus ( No. 1) back to the train station and walk to your car.
Thank you for the response.
You are correct, I did have the stations confused. We do not want to leave our car in Luzern as my hubby is a keen photographer and wants the ability to stop anywhere at any time and take photos. This is why we rented a car for the trip instead of doing trains...
So my question is still the same- is there transport- bus or taxi- that runs between the two stations?
So you want to drive to Alpnachstad and park your car there? You could return to it by train from Luzern.
calif,
I'd also suggest leaving your car parked in Lucerne. I'm also a keen photographer and he'll be able to get some good photos by taking the boat from Lucerne to Alpnachstad (photos from the water will provide a unique perspective). When you reach Alpnachstad, walk across the street to the Funicular station and make the ride up the mountain.
For your return to Lucerne the following morning, take the cable cars (there are two segments, with a change at Fräkmüntegg) down to Kriens and take the city bus back to Lucerne. You'll have to walk down the hill from the cable car station to the main street (about 5 - 10 minutes). The bus trip is only about 15-20 minutes. This will be easiest method (IMO).
Thanks for the responses, but I am not looking for alternatives to what we have already planned.
Once again, my original question was and still is:
Is there any transportation- taxi, bus, uber- between the two stations???
Yes there is and we have already covered that. If you drive to Alpnachstad and park there, you get back to your car from the bottom station of the cablecar by walking 5 minutes to the stop for Bus No. 1 which will take you to the Luzern train station. You take the train from there back to Alpnachstad. There are probably taxis waiting at the stayion as well if you would prefer that.
I have no idea if Uber is available in Switzerland.
I was asking about transport between the Kriens Valley station and the Alpnachstad Valley stations, but I read the responses as referring to the Luzern station. Is that the same as one of the above?
You have to go via Luzern station.
Bus from Kriens cable car station to Luzern station.
Train from Luzern station round the mountain to Alpnachstad station.
This map might help: https://travelingcanucks.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Gold_Rundfahrt-2011-1_0.jpg
The rail line from Luzern to Alpnachstad follows the road round the mountain. Mos people start and end this circuit in Luzern.
Chris,
Thank you!
That helps immensely! (A picture is worth 1000 words).
The Luzern station was not mentioned anywhere that I saw on the Pilatus website- only the Kriens Valley and Alpnachstad Valley stations....so I was confused to say the least.
As shown on the map, you can also complete the circle by boat, but it's slower. The drive (or public bus ride) from Luzern to Kriens is only 10 minutes and you won't particularly notice that you're in a different town. I would save driving for a different day and leave your car parked in Luzern during this particular excursion.
