We are planning 3 - 4 days in Mürren end of September early October and wondering if we need to have a place booked in advance? We are (trying) to be very open and be able to change plans depending on weather, but I am a planner and having a bit of a hard time letting go. Thoughts for that time of the year?
i'd only pre-book a spot with a free cancellation for a trip 5 months away
If you want a place when you show up, better book now.
ski,
I'd suggest booking your hotel in Mürren in advance. The advantage of doing that is that you'll have a place waiting when you arrive, probably after a long day of travel, and more importantly a place in the price range and location that you prefer. I've been in that area at that time of year, and it's not usually too busy however that may not always be the case.
There's nothing I detest more than arriving in a new location in a tired state and hauling luggage, and then have to start looking for a place to sleep that night. I always pre-book accommodations these days.
Thanks all - I will book, did find some with no cancellation fee so likely will go that way. Appreciate the help!
I was like you and booked ahead for July one year because the booking sites were showing limited occupancy. When we showed up, rooms were available everywhere, even the RS economy hotels with views that had been showing “full” on-line. If it makes you feel better, reserve, but it’s probably not necessary.
We stayed there in late September and had no problems getting a room. It was a valley side room at he Alpina which puts you right on the edge of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the view was simply incredible. That being said, if you can get a refundable reservation it's nice to know there won't be any hiccups.
