Partial Golden Pass Montreux to Montbovon?

We will be traveling from Montreux to Fribourg. I see that there is an option, which I know takes us out of our way, to take the Golden Pass as far as Montbovon, then take a regular train on to Bulle, then Fribourg. Is that part of the trip, and in that direction, worth the detour?

We could add even more time and go to Zweisimmen which would give us a circuitous route to our destination, but could be worth it?

Thanks for any input.

Just now read your post, so hope you see this before your trip. Two years ago we took the Golden Pass, and it is definitely worthwhile. Beautiful scenery all the way. Montbovon to Fribourg is also a nice scenic trip, and be sure to stopover in Gruyeres along the way. Take the bus on the short ride up the hill to the medieval town which is perfectly preserved and pedestrian only. Stay overnight if you have time. We stayed at the Hotel de Gruyeres just outside the town wall. It is quiet and nice and has a great breakfast. Also a Gruyere cheese factory close to the train station which can be toured. We will be returning this summer and staying in Fribourg and Lausanne.

Thanks for your reply! I went ahead and made a reservation for the Golden Pass. The reservation is good as far as Zweisimenn, but we'll probably get off at Montbovon, because it's too time consuming to get to Fribourg from there. I'm glad to hear the trip to Fribourg is scenic as well. I have been to Gruyeres many years ago, and we'll probably skip it on the way up to Fribourg. The next day, we'll do a day trip to Schwarzee/Lac Noir. I studied in Fribourg in college, so want to hit some of the old haunts, including Schwarzee, where we used to ski. We leave tomorrow and will be in this area towards the end of the month. Happy travels to you!
