(part of) one day in Zurich - advice?

We have four days in Switzerland after the Italy trip (17 days Best of Italy tour, hooray!) and we're going to fly into Zurich, go directly to Murren (by train) for 3 nights, then return to Zurich for our last night (thanks to everyone here, reading the posts here helped me plan this much). We will likely head out of Murren fairly early in the morning to get to Zurich before noon, and so we could spend the afternoon wandering around Zurich, or we could stop in Lucerne on the way back - or anything, really.

so given that itinerary, do you have any suggestions for us? Of course weather could affect this, if it's raining we might just want to take it easy - and frankly, after 3 weeks of being a tourist, we might not want to do too much, but what would you do in Zurich or on route to Zurich on your last day? (never been to Switzerland before).

Thanks for your help!
Tony

The consensus has been to hit Luzern as there are direct trains from there to Zurich airport in 1 hour. In Zurich itself, the Swiss National Museum across the street from the main station is interesting if you want to learn more about Swiss history. There are boat excursions on the lake. Art museum after a short tram ride.

Definitely spend you last day in Lucerne which is much more interesting than Zurich. You could actually spend the night in Lucerne before your flight home. Check you baggage at the Lucerne rail station as well as printing boarding pass.
