Landing in Paris on 22 May at 6:30pm and leaving for Geneva 25th afternoon from Paris by train. A family of 5. Parents and 3 kids (22 G, 18 G, 9 Boy). Will be in Geneva from May 25th afternoon through June 1st. Flight back to US at 7AM on June 1st. First time in Paris and Switzerland. Should we take the Swiss Train Pass. We have a hotel in Geneva that we got stuck with, don’t ask. We are planning to use Geneva as a base but to also travel and stay in other locations in Switzerland for 2 or 3 day trips. Can you suggest an Itinerary that would make this trip memorable. As a family we love hiking and good walks. My kids love museums but not my wife. We are hoping to take 3 days in interlacken and wengen. My wife would love to take some of the scenic rails that Switzerland is famous for.
Welcome to the Forum. you have shared your logistics, but not your interests. My "must do" could be a snooze for you all- what do you like as a family?
Have you reviewed the RS Guide book, which includes many practical suggestions for routes and activities?
You are a little early for certain mountain areas, as some lifts and trails won't be open yet.
If you could share your vacation lifestyle, perhaps I could offer some suggestions.
Wishing you a wonderful family trip.
It's too bad you are stuck with Geneva. Its not central and of all the places in Switzerland was the least interesting to me. You could take a look at a visit to CERN if your kids are into physics or math. My girls were 20 when they went and loved it. One is a mathematician interested in physics, the other is a elementary teacher (and found the CERN visit interesting to a person "less interested in science") On lake Geneva, consider a visit to the castle in Montreaux. The area by Lausanne, is known for wines. I've never been, but Annency is fairly close to Geneva.
Yes, it would help to know more about your family's interests. There is so much in Paris, its hard to know what to suggest without knowing your family. My girls enjoyed going up to the top of the Notre Dame and Arc de Triumphe. I hear families love the Carnavelet. It was closed the last time I was in Paris. My girls really enjoyed the Orsay, Louvre, and the Orangerie, but they like art.
Have fun
Thank you.. I have updated the topic with preferences for my family.
