Paragliding in the Bernese Oberland

Any recommendations for a paragliding company?

I had a great time with Paragliding Jungfrau. They have several jump sites throughout the region: Murren, Wengen, Schilthorn, and more.

marie,

Airtime Paragliding would be a good place to start, although I believe there are several other firms operating in that area as well. The hillside above Mürren is a popular launch location, and will provide about a 20 minute flight. The Schilthorn is also used and as I recall that provides about a one hour flight. The cost of the Schilthorn flight will be higher of course, as you'll also be paying for the cable car to get to the Schilthorn. Landing is in Stechelberg.

The hard-core wing suit crowd tends to frequent the Horner Pub in Lauterbrunnen (that used to be the case a few years ago, and I"m assuming that's still the same). It's interesting to talk to them.

I took my flight out of Murren too. It was an incredible experience on a beautiful afternoon. It was kinda pricey but well worth it. I did it before it was common to have Go pro type cameras so they offer to take video and still pictures. BTW these are tandem flights. My pilot offered to make the turns as aggressive as I liked. I can't take the tight fast corkscrew turns so I opted for the milder version.

My son paraglided (at 16) from Murren and it was a highlight of his life, not just our trip. He still talks about it. When we got back home, he bought himself a paraglide and took lessons. College got in the way, and then a job, but he's planning to take lessons again this summer/fall and get back into it. I wish he'd stick to golf, lol, but he absolutely loves it. Highly recommend you use a GoPro when you do it. Can't remember company name he used, we just asked for recommendations at our hotel in Murren when we were there. Everyone knows everyone there... : )

Wow! We were sitting inside the revolving restaurant on top of the Schilthorn, enjoying lunch, when once in a while a someone would float past the window paragliding at 10,000 feet. Amazing just to see.

Bets,

That's even more impressive to see at the Aguille du Midi at 12,000+ feet, especially when they're flying above the buildings. I'm assuming they must be using supplemental oxygen?

Noting Bets' reply I'll say I was walking back from Truemmelbach Falls to Stechelberg minding my own business when I suddenly heard a whump overhead. It was one of the guys in the flying squirrel suits deploying his chute and dropping in to a cow pasture I just passed! Scared the cr*p out of me because I was looking ~around~ but not up!!

The cow pasture is one of the major concerns of the Paragliding Pilots. After landing they move quickly to ensure their Parasail doesn't land in a fresh cow patty!

Lol Ken! Yes, that would not be too welcoming!
