Packing help

Hello! Traveling early September—main destinations are Zermatt, Wengen, and Lucern. We plan to do exploring around BO, travel up to Matterhorn viewpoints, etc. Will maybe do a few small easy hikes, but nothing too intense as we will have our 4 year old with us.

Trying to determine what we need to pack for the climate this time of year. Will we need a down jacket when we travel up to viewpoints? We’re hoping to use carryon suitcases only, so trying to be strategic with what we do/don’t take. On that note, have you had success finding local laundry drop-offs in any of these areas? We’ve done that on previous trips in Italy and it helped immensely.

Thank you!

In Luzern there is this: https://www.laundryluzern.ch/. RS mentions Jet Wash, but IDK if it will do your laundry. Use google translate: https://www.jetwasch-luzern.ch/.

Our Wengen vacation rental has a washer/dryer- perhaps your accommodations might too? For early September, I am bringing down vest, warmer long sleeve shirt, headband, rainjacket for our hikes. Layering is key and we are also prepared for warmer weather. We are doing carryons only for our entire trip that includes Paris, Dordogne and a Rhine River cruise.

We have been in Switzerland at that time. Lucerne can be in the 80's during the day, and I only had mountain layers , with carry- on only luggage. However, the higher up you go, the cooler, and I needed my packable down jacket in the mornings and evenings in Murren. Don't forget a packable full-length rain jacket or poncho ( a poncho can cover your backpack.)
Safe travels to this beautiful area.
