Only have four days. Help!

We only have four (maybe five) days for Switzerland in June. We are so torn on what to do and see. Should we get an apartment in a central location (Interlaken?) and do day trips to places like Jungfrau or just get a nice chalet (Wengen?) and veg out gazing at the same mountain for a few days? We'll be taking the train from Munich to Switzerland, if that info is important. Thanks.

I would get a nice chalet or room in Wengen and take a few hikes while there.....the beauty is incredible.....if you feel like you are missing anything take the local train down to Lauterbrunnen and make a day trip over to Lucerne and walk the old town and have lunch....take the funicular to Mt. Pilatus and enjoy the incredible view. We felt like Interlaken was a bit touristy for our tastes......sorry we had stayed there on our first visit instead of finding a place up the mountain valley like Wengen. If you stay in Wengen you are surrounded by all of the beauty you have traveled to see and it is there for you to walk and enjoy whenever you want.....if the forecast looks clear try the train up to the Jungfrau one day. Interlaken was a nice day visit and lunch spot but I would not stay there if I could be up in the middle of the mountains. We rented a motorcycle one of the days we were there from a small shop in Interlaken and rode the backroads around the lakes.......such a fun experience one afternoon.

If you want beautiful views of the alps stay in Wengen or Murren. Enjoy your stay in Munich-we loved it.

Just to reinforce, Interlaken is not in the mountains its at the foot of the mountains. Its just got a more well-known name, but its more of a transportation hub for people going up the valley, where you really want to be - like Wengen Lauterbrunnen or Mürren. A good alternative is Luzern, if you want more of a city environment, with plenty of excursion options, up the mountains there, or cruising on the Lake. All places in Switzerland are easy to access by train.

Just because you stay in Wengen doesn’t mean your only option is to veg out...quite the opposite actually. Being in Wengen is being halfway to the Jungfrau as you would need to pass through Wengen if you traversed from Interlaken to Jungfrau. Wengen is about 100 times more spectacular than Interlaken.
