I will be finishing a Rick Steves My Way Alpine Europe mid June. I need to stay an appropriate distance from the Geneva airport to facilitate an 11:00 departure. I presume I should be there by 8:00 for a flight to the United States. Prior to Geneva I will be in either in Annecy or Lausanne for two nights. I still can’t decide which location is better. That is a question to discuss as well. Each spot has ifs devotees and detractors. But for sure I need a hotel within striking distance of the airport the night before I fly. I am open to suggestions for a hotel as well as suggestions for the two days after my Chamonix one night extension of the tour.
There are a bunch of nearby hotels to the Geneva airport with shuttles. I aways start with Booking .com myself even when I decide to book directly as we did recently.. Lausanne has its Olympic connection of course, but it has several very nice museums and the north shore of the lake has some very nice wineries reachable by local buses. It depends on how touristed-out you are after the RS tour. Have fun.
My strategy would be to go to the SBB website and see what time you would have to depart Lausanne for arrival, ditto for Annecy. Whichever gives you the most pleasant and convenient trip wind down locations would be my choice--and knowing my wake-up time and airport logistics is part of that.
There are 4 trains every hour from Lausanne direct to Geneva airport and they take anywhere from 49 to 54 minutes.
Annecy is 1 1/2 hours by direct bus.
