My husband and I will be ending a Viking cruise in Basel and the beginning of July and plan to spend one night there. Looking for hotel recommendation. Things to do? We plan to take a train to Zurich - need guidance with that as well.
Then two night in Lucerne and flying out of Zurich. Any help with stuff to do and best way to get to the Zurich airport.

The Luzern page on this website has several good suggestions for activities. I would start there. MySwitzerland is another great resource. The town itself is fun to explore by foot. I do like the Rosengart, a small modern art museum with stuff by Picasso and Klee.
Luzern has a direct rail link to the Zurich airport (2 per hour, 70 minutes).

If you get a hotel in the city you get free transport for your stay. Staying outside the city may look like cheaper, but it will be a lot less convenient. Same site also lists things to see.

Why go Basel --> Zürich --> Luzern? That is 2 sides of a triangle. There are direct trains from Basel to Zürich every 30 minutes, takes just over an hour.

There are no discounts for advance purchase, and no reservations. Buy your tickets at the station on the day of travel and get on the next train.
