I need a recommendation on the best way to see the alps- we want a little hiking and/or bike riding; do a picnic ( we think); and get the VIEWS; in my mind i want to see cows grazing and chalets and the beautiful alps; the tours look very pricy. To go to Mt Pilatus or Mt. Titlis is about $169 pp. any other suggestion to get the "Switzerland" experience for less money.
To Mt. TitlIs (if it's nice weather). You don't have to take expensive tour. Do it yourself. From Luzern by train to Engelberg then by cable car to Mt.Titlis.
If the weather is nice Mt Titlis is worth the trip. Incredible views. Go early as the crowd builds as the day progresses. I believe you can hike down from the middle station on the cable car.
Luzern’s train station has a Coop store where you can pick up some picnic supplies. There’s a Manor store in town but I don’t recall if they have a grocery section. The Manor store does have a nice restaurant with pretty good food. Engelberg has a small Coop store too.
