We are doing the Rick Steve tour this September, which ends with 2 days in Bern. Thinking probably heading to Zurich for a night and catch a flight back to states in the morning. Most direct flights seem to leave 9:30 - 10:00 AM. Maybe try to stay near train station in Altstadt (old town). Any hotel recommendations are welcome. We plan to see a bit of the sites in Old Town on our day and find a nice dinner spot before heading back.
For our last night, we've stayed in the Ibis Budget Zurich Airport. It's right on the tram line, 50 yards from a station. One stop to the airport. Nothing fancy, room was very small, but clean and nice. Breakfast buffet was good. For dinner, we walked to the Restaurant Glatthof. Good place for our last Swiss meal.
In Bern, we like walking to the Altes Tram Depot restaurant. Eat outdoors if weather is nice.
Highly recommend Hotel Adler! They have rooms overlooking a lovely square in the old town and the airport is a quick train ride on your last day. There is a great fondue restaurant on the first floor. It’s touristy but it is quite good. Or make a dinner reservation at Raclette Stube, just a 5 minute walk from the hotel!
Thanks, Joseph. I had seen Hotel Adler in another post, and a travel podcast. So we got a night reserved there. Looks pretty close to train station, although we may shuttle or taxi to airport for our flight the following day, it looks like we will be flying out at 9:30…so thinking be at airport at 6:30ish?
There are trains from the main station every few minutes (like 9 per hour) to the airport beginning at 5:14 am and they take 20 to 24 minutes. It is an 11 minutes walk from the Adler to the main station. You could also take the No 4 Tram 2 stops to the station.
