one day in Zürich

I'll be in Zürich for one day (a Saturday, in case that matters) in mid-April with my mom. What would you do with one day in Zürich? Any recommendations for a nice area of the city to spend the night?

Thanks!

One of our daughters lives in Zurich, so we spend several weeks a year there. See the Swiss historical museum, across from the train station. Walk down Bahnhofstrasse for the amazing shops. Have a wonderful desert and coffee upstairs at Sprungli (Bahnhofstrasse 21, at Paradeplatz; don't miss doing this, it's one of the best patisseries in Switzerland). Walk up to the Lindenplatz, overlooking the Limmat. Go into the Grossmunster for the windows. Take a ship tour on the Surichsee (about 3 hours). Like views? Take the tram up Uetliberg. The best guide is CitySpots Zurich by Thomas Cook. These little guides (for most European cities) are really great.

At Brasserie Lipp you can walk through the restaurant and take the elevator toward the back on the right up to the Jules Verne Bar and see a lovely panoramic view of the city. You can do so without purchasing anything. Another nice view of the city is seen by heading up the funicular to ETH.
