one day in Luzern before 5 days in Murren

What would be the best way to spend one day in Luzern given that we will have 5 days in Murren? I would think that since we're heading up to high elevation, we don't need to try to go to Mt. Rigi or Mt. Pilatus. I was thinking that spending time in the town and taking a boat ride would be nice :-). Does that seem like a good idea or would we be really missing something spectacular? Thank you.

I really enjoyed my day trip to Luzern this Summer. I was staying in Zurich and I am glad I went there for a day.
I simply walked around and enjoyed the great weather and swiss german food/beer. A boat trip sounds like a good idea.
The only Mount that I have visited is Mount Titlis...so I cannot compare. But I loved it...and Engelberg is nice too.
Mount Titlis has the highest suspended bridge in Europe I believe....and I was set on stepping on it. I am sure Rigi and Pilatus are worth it...but often it depends on the weather that day...you may want to decide on that last minute.

Great city in which to walk around. Taking the cog railway (steepest gradient in the world, I believe) up Mt. Pilatus was great. The Lion Monument, Jesuit Church, Chapel Bridge, Church of St Leodegar all within easy walking distance from town center. I am into trains and Luzern is home to the Swiss National Transportation Museum. Planes, trains, autos, boats. I found it interesting but it's not for everyone.

I think that's a great approach! I just came back from a similar trip and have no regrets whatsoever. Murren is a fabulous place to stay. With some of the most unparalleled views from Murren, I don't think you'd be sad to bypass the mountains near Luzern. If your trip is only those two areas, you may want to spend your brief time in Luzern actually in the city because Murren is much more quaint.

In Luzern, I'd see the lion monument, the wooden bridges, take a boat ride, and just enjoy the rest of my time walking around and exploring.
