We will be staying two nights in Lucerne in September second week. I bought a SDP for a one full day visit in lucerne. I am wondering how best we use the SDP to enjoy one day in Lucerne and surrounding area. Would like to go Rigi and enjoy the boat tour. Thinking of catching boat around 9 am in the morning to go all the way to Fluelen and take a train to Rigi Kulm and return back to lucerne by 5 pm. This plan has lot of travel. Instead, should I just go only upto Brunnen and spend couple of hours in the lake shores and go to Rigi Kulm by train? Any ideas appreciated...thank you..

I always just take the boat to Vitznau and the train up to Rigi from there. Then I do the reverse to get back to Lucerne.
If you want to maximize the saver day pass, you could see Rigi in the morning, come back to Lucerne, then take the cable car up to Stanserhorn. That journey is also covered by the saver day pass.
