on the cover of today's LA Times

there's a nice picture of Lauterbrunnen valley as part of a story about those BASE jumpers who were killed in Yosemite. Which makes sense, since as we were travelling through the valley my first thought was Wow this is a lot like Yosemite Valley.

We actually watched the base jumpers when we were in Lauterbrunnen. Scary but interesting sights.

Dean Potter and his companion were attempting the descent in wingsuits, a very dangerous sport. What a shame for them to lose their lives this way.

You may well see para gliders in the Lauterbrunnen valley, or from the Gimmelwald to Stechelberg cablecar.

While we were on the Schilthorn observation platform there was a hang glider just lofting about, at our altitude, the whole time! I wondered if at that height he had difficulties breathing. After a while I thought perhaps he was a (hanging) advertisement for a rental outfit.

I'll keep an eye out for him - provided, of course, that it's not fogged in. Only one day there, so we live and hope . . .
