When my husband and I have a restaurant meal in small town USA, we often share it because the portion sizes are large. I will order a side salad or an appetizer alongside. It is very acceptable where I live. Is the same practice acceptable in Switzerland?
Yes you can do that. You can often ask for a second plate in many cases.
yes you can - and with the prices it is sometimes a good use of money. but be sure that you aren't doing it for portion size. It is unlikely you will receive US sized portions.
Thanks for the replies. I just didn't want to be ignorant (and rude).
Just be aware some places may charge you for the extra plate, especially in tourist areas (normally to avoid larger groups taking up tables without spending money). Usually it is mentioned on the menu but easy to miss. If you’re also ordering a salad/app, it’s less likely to happen, but just thought I’d mention it so you aren’t surprised.
The Brasserie Lipp in Paris says on the menu, NO SALAD AS A MEAL.
Thanks guys.
