Official Train sites

Hi All,

We are planning to be in Switzerland in First week of June.
Flights out of Milan, Italy are coming out for a little bit of less price so we were thinking to do Chur to Tirano Bernina express.
What is the official train site where I can look for ticket prices, schedule for trains etc to see if it will work for us or just to stick with flights out of Zurich which is current plan.
I know for all other travel SBB is the official site, but when I try Chur to Tirano on SBB I get connecting trains instead of Bernina.
Also, if there are official sites for Glacier express, please provide that.
We do not have a plan to get on to Glacier express, but if needed will be helpful in planning.

Thank you!!

In confused about your proposed flights. Are you thinking of a multi- city airline ticket, into Milan and out of Zurich?
How long will you be in Switzerland?
The STP or half- fare card may work best for you in Switzerland. Also, you can ride the Bernina Express route on regional trains, not the panoramic trains, using one of these passes. The regional trains run on the exact same tracks , (used by the local folks,) so you have more schedule options, and seat reservations not required.
Milan to Tirano, Italy on the Italian train line. Cross the plaza in Tirano and board the Bernina Exoress train ( use SBB app)
Have a great trip!

Hi Yes, we are looking at multi city tickets. I have two options:
1. In and out of Zurich - prices are high for this one
2. Arriving in Zurich and flying out of Milan - prices are less.

We dont want to change multiple trains as we will have two small kids and luggage with us so looking only for Bernina express.
Also, we will be in Switzerland for 10 days, so we will have half fare card or swiss travel pass for sure.

Thanks!

where else are you planning to go in Switzerland? the free Family Card will help as you can get that with either the Half Fare Card or the Swiss Travel Pass. kids ride free with you then.

You should get seat reservations as soon as possible for the Bernina Express. Even though the kids travel free, you still need to purchase seat reservations for them as well.

For schedules and prices for other trains in Switzerland, go to www.sbb.ch/en

Thanks Sam!

We will be spending a day in Zurich
A day in Lucerne
5 days in Bernese oberland region
2 days in Montreux

I checked the site for booking reservation. It does not show the direction of travel. Any idea which side would be better for views?
I am not able to attach an image here, so adding the just seat numbers if it helps:
2nd class tickets - seat number : 51, 52, 53, 58
or
Seat number: 54, 55, 56, 57

Note on the reservation page says, "No information on the driving direction is available."

The train makes lots of turns, so there is really no preferred side. Get 4 seats over a table and enjoy the ride.

BTW, How are you getting from Montreux to Chur?

I know for all other travel SBB is the official site, but when I try
Chur to Tirano on SBB I get connecting trains instead of Bernina.

If you look up Chur to Tirano on SBB you will get all the trains on that route, and yes, most trains will require you to change en route. They all go over the Albula and Bernina Railways. Changing trains is a trivial and expected feature of train travel. Nobody loses any hair over that. Not even families with children...

The tickets you get from SBB. Most trains do not require reservations. If you want to sit in the Panoramic cars on the Bernina Express or the Glacier Express you reserve that separately on RhB. Note that you do not need to get the ticket now, so you have some time to consider wether you may want to get a pass in stead.

Thank you all for suggestions!!

We haven't decided on order yet, so I am thinking to make Zurich as last stop since it will be only an hour or so from Zurich to Chur.
Tentative order is:
Wengen - 5 days
Montreux - 2 days
Lucerne - 1 day
Zurich - 1 day
Next day- Head to Chur from Zurich.

I Hope the order is fine!

Are you planning on the morning Bernina Express or the afternoon Bernina Express?

We are planning the afternoon Bernina Express.
Is there a difference or is one preferred over other?

No difference. Just thinking you could spend an extra night in Luzern rather than going to Zurich. It is only an extra 45 minutes on the train to either Zurich or Thalwil for the connection to Chur. One less, pack up, check out, travel, check in exercise.

That makes sense!
So skip night stay in Zurich and keep it as 2 nights in Lucerne.

Thank you!!
