I am planning on visiting Cern on my last day in switzerland if i can get a reservation.
If i cannot can anyone recommend other options for a day in august . I will have a car and will be staying at geneva airport hotel. Thx in advance for suggestions.

First, I'd leave the car and take the buses. Your hotel should give you a free bus pass--this is standard practice in Geneva now.
I'd recommend a city walking tour led by the tourist office, or go to John Calvin's old church and climb the bell tower, or take a lake cruise, or rent a free bike and ride along the lake shore path, or visit the Red Cross museum, or if Wed. or Sat., stroll the flea markets set up at Plainpalais.
