My husband and I will be in Switzerland/France from Nov. 24-Dec. 6. We plan to be in Strasbourg/Colmar area for the first part of the trip (4-6 days) and then back to Switzerland for the remainder. We love Christmas markets but also would like to explore Switzerland as it will be our first time visiting the country. We are flying in/out of Zurich. My husband does not love to hotel hop so I am looking for recommendations for a home base while in Switzerland; we could do 2 different cities for a total of 5-6 days.. Thinking about Bern, Basel, or Lucerne. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Well as a Swiss I'd look at somewhere around Olten as it is a major switching point for the railways. You can easily do Strasbourg, Colmar, Bern, Lucerne and Basel as day trips if you wish. And you also have direct trains from there to the airport as well.
