Hello, my family will be traveling from Salzburg, Austria to Colmar, France at the beginning of January. It is a day's train ride through Switzerland, so we are considering stopping in Switzerland for a night to instead have a couple of shorter train rides. I have heard about evening toboggan rides in Switzerland which I thought would be fun for my family. I believe that this is done in multiple parts of the country. Has anyone done this, and if so, is it worthwhile, and at which location did you do the toboggan run at? Thank you.
It's as quick as a 6.5 hour ride without ever entering Switzerland. Salzburg->Munich->Stuttgart->Strasbourg->Colmar
Night sledging (as opposed to tobogganing) is usually done only on certain nights at ski resorts, most of which require a considerably detour off a route from Salzburg to Colmar. And Tim has pointed out that the shortest route is through Germany.
So unless you want to take a couple of days and do it as a daytime activity, then skip it. Daytime, it can be done at the Zugspitze, or many places by train south of Salzburg. Also, if you go through Switzerland, stop at Sargans and change to Flimserberg, where they have sledging. That is probably to closest spot that is along the way.
Thank you very much, Sam and Tim. I appreciate the advice as well as the train route info.

However, the train ride through Switzerland is drop-dead gorgeous. We went Colmar to Zell-am-See last Christmas -- so beautiful!!
Laura, thank you! It was my original plan for my family to take in the breathtaking views of Switzerland during our train ride. I can't wait to share this gorgeousness with my family.
