Need your Expertise with perfecting my Itinerary

Hello Everyone.
I'm so very happy i found this blog and that you are all so very knowledgeable.
I need your help with my itinerary. I'll be travelling from Germany into Switzerland with my husband and four year old daughter. We only have 5 nights to try to get a glimpse of this beautiful country. See my itinerary below let me know if i need to include anything.

Munich - Luzern Sept 25th
I'll be travelling from Munich to Luzern on Sept 25th. I'm thinking of flying to Zurich since i heard the train ride is 8 hrs and not a scenic one. Q1: Can someone tell me if it's better to fly or train?
-Arrive in Luzern around 1pm and walk around the old town and visit the church. I have one night booked at the Hotel Des Alpes.

Luzern - Murren Sept 26-27
After lunch in Luzern i plan to take the Train to Murren. From the train table i see it's a few connections it's Luzern to Interlaken... and then Lauterbrunnen and then Murren. I hear this train ride is breathtaking! We are staying 2 nights at the Hotel Alpina. I plan to make some time with a photographer in Murren to take Family pictures of us in the mountains. Its the only souvenir I want :)

I would also like to go up to Jungfrau if possible. If not i'll be happy visiting the neighboring towns and being around the famous Swiss Alps.
Q2: Can someone give me some photo locations? I would like the gorgeous mountains in the background, and maybe if there are some typical Swiss Chalets around.
Q3: I heard Grindelwald is nearby and can be walked to --- can i walk it with a stroller? or is it a rough trail? Are there any hiking trails my husband and i can do with a stroller?

Murren - Montreux Sept 28
I plan to take the first trains out of Lauterbrunnen over to Montreux. I don't have any hotels booked maybe you can recommend one.
Q4: What is a nice central hotel, not too pricey (less than 250) close to the train station where we can walk around and enjoy the scenery?
Q5: Any MUST See places while in Montreux? Is Chillon Castle nearby?

Montreux-Geneva Sept 29
Q6: Should i drive from Montreux to Geneva, i hear the lake towns are breathtaking. Or take a train straight to Geneva and sight see in Geneva?
I already have an airport hotel booked since we fly out Sept 30th at 6am.

Q7: Any MUST See places traveling from Montreux to Geneva? Anything spectacular in Geneva to see?

Thank you thank you!!!!! I look forward to your tips and advice.

  1. Munich to Luzern by train is 6 hours, not 8, and only 5 hours if you take the IC bus. Flying will involve about a 1 hour train ride to Munich airport, at least 1 1/2 hour from arrival to departure for check in, security, walk to gate and time to board. Then a 1 hour flight, then 1/2 hour to get off the plane and get luggage and walk to the train station, 1/2 hour waiting for the next train to Luzern, then 1 hour to Luzern. I count 5 1/2 hours total.

  2. Too many all-too-cute spots to mention. Just look around.

  3. Grindelwald is about a 1 hour train ride away with several train changes along the way. Or do you mean Gimmelwald? Yes, you can walk down hill to there and ride back on the cable car.

  4. Don't know, but you should be able to find some.

  5. Statue of Freddie Mercury on the water front. Site of the famous concert hall that burned down a number of years ago and inspired Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water". Yes, Chillon is nearby. Get there by boat bus or train.

  6. Take the train and you'll see the lake instead of the highway. Swiss train tickets allow you to hop on and off for the day. Many stations have luggage lockers.

  7. Vineyards. Should be harvest season. Geneva is unspectacular IMHO.

I plan to take the first trains out of Lauterbrunnen over to Montreux.

The first train out of Lauterbrunnen to Montreux is 06:32 (1st via Zweisimmen), thereafter every ½ hour. All rail routes in Switzerland are at least one train per hour. Do you really mean to start that early?

Q3: I heard Grindelwald is nearby and can be walked to --- can i walk it with a stroller? or is it a rough trail?

Yes, by walking over a mountain! Grindelwald is in the next valley. Lauterbrunnen is in a valley. Mürren and Wengen are either side of Lauterbrunnen up the valley side.
See this photo: https://wengen.swiss/fileadmin/wengen/Allgemein/Wengen_06.JPG
It is taken from Wengen. Lauterbrunnen is down in the valley. Mürren is on top of those cliffs on the other side of the valley. That is why you need a cable car to get to Mürren. Not stroller-friendly to go up and down valley sides.
Once you get up to Mürren, it is stroller-friendly in the village. Photo: https://c8.alamy.com/comp/B2CGM7/murren-village-switzerland-B2CGM7.jpg

This photo shows a path in the valley bottom (Lauterbrunnen). More stroller friendly: https://st2.depositphotos.com/3622961/10012/i/950/depositphotos_100128432-stock-photo-the-town-of-lauterbrunnen-switzerland.jpg

Q6: Should i drive from Montreux to Geneva,

The rail line goes around the lake. Through vineyards. Photo here: https://www.lake-geneva-switzerland.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Trains-in-Lavaux.jpg
