Do most towns along the way have a tent camping spot?
If so, what would I expect to pay?
And I have heard some of the huts along the way allow tents outside.
If so, How much would I expect to pay for that??
Thanks,
Mike

"Camping sauvage" is highly discouraged in Switzerland. The mountain huts are not set up for tent camping - none of the ones I've been to at least and I've been to quite a few. Some of the parts along the route are several hour's walk from the nearest town that would have campgrounds. If this is what you want to do you'll pay anywhere from around 8 - 15 euros per night for a tent. There is a blog I came across a while back that you might want to read...it's by a couple that did the Haute Route using just a tent. They talk about where they pitched their tent along the way. It is doable but you must be extremely discreet as it is frowned on.
Thanks for your reply. You info. is very helpful.
Unfortunately the huts, and some landowners, really discourage this. A hut will probably run you off if you are within site. There are so many huts, see sac cas huetten/huts, you do not need a tent.
