We will arrive at Lauterbrunnen around noon and plan to explore both sides of the valley in next two days if weather permits - 1 day to Jungfraujoch, I day to Schilthorn. My questions:
1. What can we do in half day (afternoon of arrival day)? Is it enough time to go up to the mountain?
2. Which peek takes more time to explore Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn?
3. What easy hikes (for healthy 60+) can be included in the days to explore the peeks?
4. If weather prevents us from going to the peeks, what can we do to maximize our experience in BO?
I want to thank everyone in advance for your recommendation!
What time of year? Where exactly are you staying ?
There is a wealth of info already here on the Forum under the Switzerland section. Just review the entries for the past six months, and you will find the answers to your questions. And you will wish you had more time in the Alps. Weather may affect actually going to the summits, but even on cloudy days, the hiking is beautiful.
Safe travels to this beautiful area !
- Yes check the weather first. Both the Schilthorn and the Jungfrau have websites with web cams also.
- The Jungfrau, and the price to go up there kind of reflects this.
- You can include a hike up or down from Murren to Gimmelwald if you go up to the Schilthorn. Also the hike from Mannlichen to Kleine Schedeig (this is reached by taking the train up to Wengen and then a lift up to Mannlichen) is flat with spectacular views.
- If you have a Swiss Travel Pass most museums are free.
