My Way Alpine hiking Lauterbrunnen Valley

Hi,

I also posted this in France. We are on the July 5-12 my way tour. I am looking for recommendations on packing for hiking.

Thank you.

July is a big rain month in the alps: waterproof shoes and rain coat (they are not all made the same, I'm talking about ones with sealed seams. I would also bring poles, and rains pants. J

I was in Lauterbrunnen a couple years ago the first week of July…rained one day at dinner time, otherwise great temps and blue skyes…a good pair of Nikes was all that was needed. Looking fwd to a return trip in mid June.

I have been twice in July. It rained once. You should just have regular light weight Nike hiking shoes gortex. That's what I have and ran into other travelers with the same exact pair on the trails. I am 53 and fit from doing lots of core exercises and squats. I don't use hiking poles. You need hat and maybe one that covers your ears and sunscreen; the higher you go that sun will tan or burn you.

Thanks for asking… I was wondering this myself for late June alpine my way.
Are you packing long REI style lightweight hiking pants? Or just shorts?

For Switzerland, we are staying in Wengen hotel above the valley floor. I am considering hikes up to mannlïchen, Royal walk, north face walk, and possibly the valley floor if it is socked in. Maybe the schilthorn??

I will bring a light sun shirt long sleeves but vented. In YouTube videos I saw so many people without hats, surprisingly. I suggest a hat for sun protection, and a packable rain jacket too. Last June on the BOI we had rain in the afternoon in the Dolomites. It was very peaceful to listen to overnight tho!

Thanks again for posing this question :)
