We are flying into Zurich, taking the train to Murren and spending 4 nights there. What are the 'must do' tours that we can do as day trips? From Murren, we will go to Geneva for 4 nights. We will have less time there as we are going to the Laver Cup in Geneva for 2.5 days. We will be taking the train back to Zurich after the tournament and would like to know if we should stop somewhere else on the way back. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Part of the Golden Pass Route goes from Interlaken to Montreux. You might want to take that on the way to Geneva or from Geneva on the way to Zurich via Luzern.
You can access the top of the Schilthorn (where the filmed the James Bond movie Her Majesty's Secret Service) from Murren; it is included with the Swiss Travel Pass.
I managed to take a day trip to Bern (including a visit to the Paul Klee museum) and then to Zermatt from Murren.
I also took a day trip from to Kleine Scheidegg from Murren. That is the route on the way to the Jungfrau.
There are some great views up there and hiking.
There is a boat you can take from Lake Luzern to connect to train up to Mt Rigi. This is covered by the Swiss Travel Pass.
We were just in Mürren for 4 night earlier this month. I don’t know that I would do any “day trips” from Mürren. If the weather is good, just take advantage of being in the mountains. Go up the Schilthorn. Walk down to Gimmelwald. Research the time and cost of going up to the Jungfraujoch, to see if that appeals to you. Explore many of the great hikes that are available in the area. On a cloudy or rainy day, check out the waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. There are lots of suggestions for hikes in the RS guide.
What Kathy said, Mürren is enough. Will you be using a pass, or perhaps Half Fare Card ? Note that the Schilthorn trip is about $100 from Mürren if you don't have a pass ir HFC.
Go to Wengen, explore there and travel up to Mannlichen and walk down. It's a great day out.
