Murren to Lugano

Hello - I'm staying in Murren for a few days, then I'm going to Lugano. Any suggestions on a really scenic route to take? Thanks!

Either of the two routes shown at www.sbb.ch/en will be plenty scenic. One, via Spiez, Domodossola will be even more scenic (but longer) if you specify via Kandersteg to get the Loetschberg Express included. The other, via Luzern, has plenty of mountain scenery as well.

And also when?
If you are going between end of May and November, the high Alpine passes will be open and you can go "over the top" via the Grimsel pass (2164 metres) and Nufenen pass (2478 metres). These passes are in reality more spectacular than when seen in films or on TV. Search You Tube for "Grimselpass" or "Nufenen pass".
This is actually the shortest route from Mürren to Lugano. If you are driving it is easy, but the driver will not appreciate the scenery as (s)he will be concentrating on the road. It is also possible by bus, There are a few buses every day, connecting with the trains. You need to research this on www.sbb.ch adding in "Grimselpass" and "Nufenen pass" in the "via" box to force the route you want.

Sorry I forgot to note I'm going by train in mid-September.

My husband and I totally enjoyed staying at the Hotel Dante Center, Lugano. It is literally at the bottom of the funicular, as you get off the train. It was a lovely hotel. We enjoyed eating breakfast at the picturesque dining area. We booked the hotel on their website.
