I will be in Murren in July, leaving there on 25th to make my way back to Amsterdam for flight on 27th. After reading about the Alsace Region, France, and Colmar in particular, it sounds interesting place to spend a day/night. and it's sort of on the way to Amsterdam. Rome2rio shows train trip taking over 5 hours, but car only 2.5. My question is this: does anyone know if there is a chance I could hire a driver in the area to drive me to Colmar - something Uber like? or any better ideas of a way back to amsterdam that would be interesting? thanks!
Don't use Rome2Rio. www.sbb.ch/en has the train journey at slightly over 4 hours. Cars cannot pick you up in Murren so they'd have to meet you in Lauterbrunnen. Lauterbrunnen to Colmar is 3.5hrs by train. I can't imagine that a car could make it faster but even if it could, it would extremely expensive to hire a taxi to take you that distance.
Kerry,
Travel by train will be much faster, more efficient and also cheaper. For example, there's a train departing Interlaken Ost at 10:00, arriving Colmar at 13:05 (time 3H:05M, one change at Basel SBB). There are numerous other departures on that route, with varying travel times and other details. You would of course have to get from Mürren to Interlaken Ost in time for that departure, but that's an easy and simple trip.
thank you so much, I will look on the sbb website.
