I am currently planning on spending 4 days in Murren starting May 22, 2023 Is this two early? I am an active 80 yr old hiker who would like to spend the time outdoors doing easy hikes on paved or well maintained trails. Probably around Murren/Gimmelwald and Grindelwald/Wengen. What about temps and snow accumulation? Any advice is appreciated.
I was in Murren May 2019 and then in that area last year May 15 it is my birthday.
It snowed wetly up there at night but melted in the day. It is not cold just layer under a waterproof with a hood. You want to see this mix of green and snow on the mountains it is beautiful. You might go up to Wengen and then take the lift up to Mannlichen and hike the flat Panoramaweg. I am thinking around noon when it warms up and any snow is melting.

Start hikes later in the day versus the morning in May
Unfortunately, the cable car up to Mannlichen does not start operating until May 27. See the schedule here:

And the hiking trail from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg typically does not open until mid-june. From this link below, if you click “condition hiking trails” it will pull up a map showing which trails are open. Be sure to check that in May.

One of my favorite walks for the spectacular views is from murren down to gimmelwald. That will be open.
Thanks to both of you. Great information. Thanks for the websites.
Some other lower elevation walks that come to mind are the walk down in Lauterbrunnen and the walk from Grutschalp to Murren. You can find details on those here, a great resource that forum member shoe put together:

Also, the views from Murren are quite incredible, so you can enjoy just walking through town.
You guys have the best websites. I thought I had done a good job of research but I never found these.
RE Murren hiking: The only slight hiccup you want to look out for is if the Allmendhubelbahn (funicular) is closed in May. It was closed when we were there in October, which meant we had to start two of our hikes by first ascending that uphill for probably 30-40 minutes. We're in our 40s (also unknowingly had covid at the time), and it was no picnic. The hikes we did (Grutschalp and Northface) would have been much much easier without that part. I am sure there are plenty of options though!
The Allmendhubel Funicular mentioned above does not start operating until June 9th. You can find the schedule here:

In Switzerland, there is never a need to wonder if something will be open or not because the schedules are always posted, often a year or two in advance.
