Murren in December

We will be in Murren December 12-15 and a few of the hotels that I have inquired to are closed until December 16th. I have found several that are open and have availability, but I am concerned that the restaurants and shops may not be in full swing either. For those that have been there this time of year, do you think that the town will be active enough for a visit, or should we consider somewhere else for this leg of our trip?

Thank you!

There should be a few skiers and boarders in town. I was in a few resorts elsewhere in the Alps 1 1/2 years ago at that time slot, and there was plenty of activity. Yes, a few hotels will still be closed, but that is to be expected as demand isn't quite there yet.

Restaurants will not be in fill swing? Which restaurants are you concerned with? Many of the hotels have their own restaurants which are also open to the public. Many of the villages restaurants ARE those restaurants in the hotels. Murren is also well connected to Lauterbrunnen and Wengen and Interlaken - I don't think you'll have a problem finding a restaurant.

And don't forget that this is a village where people actually live and work and buy groceries and conduct business. So it's not going to be closed down completely.

There aren't that many restaurants to begin with, and not much in the way of shopping, but that wouldn't deter me. You can get to Lauterbrunnen easily enough if you need "city life". I think a few days there during off-season would be great.

Enough should be open that you 'll have at least a few choices. The ski season usually has a gradual start, where more and more businesses open each week. And if the weather allows an early start to the season, most of the businesses try to reach full capacity as quickly as possible, because the skiers will inevitably soon arrive.

I count about 13 restaurants in tiny Murren - that's quite a few.

Great; thank you everyone. We are really excited about this leg of the trip and it sounds like we'll have plenty of options. In all likelihood, as long as the Coop is open, we will be in good shape.

Thanks Tim.

We will be there Monday through Thursday so it looks like we are in the clear!
