Murren in April

Hello fellow travelers!

I apparently didn't research enough about the best times to visit the Berner Oberland parts of Switzerland before I booked our trip for end of April! I am starting to stress a little about the weather and if we should skip Murren, save Switzerland for another tripand go somewhere else. Our intinerary is as follows:

Prague - 3 nights
Vienna - 3 nights
Munich - 4 nights
Murren - 4 nights
Zurich - 1 night

If you don't recommend we do Murren during this time (Apr 23-27) what do you suggest we do? I'm really only interested in the Swiss alps and not the Switzerland cities, so if we don't do the alps I'd rather save Switzerland for another trip at a better time of year. We have our flight home booked out of Zurich so we need to end the trip there no matter what. Should we extend our time in Germany? Stay more in Austria?

Would love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks!

While Murren s wonderful,u are right the snow will still be there. Have u thought of lake constanz area? It is beautiful and relaxing and a simple train ride tomzurich airport. Lindau on the lake is lovely town to visit. If unwantbalittle more switzerland ck out Appenzell.

The problem with Mürren at that time of year isn't so much snow as fog, rain, mud, feces and closures. Most of the snowpack around Mürren will have melted, but the ground is extremely muddy. As soon as the snow retreats, the farmers use this time to fertilize the pastures (manure sprayed through a powerhose). You can expect regular rain and overcast, foggy conditions more often than not, blocking those mountain views you paid so dearly to see. For this reason, most of the businesses that cater to tourists (restaurants, hotels, etc.) temporarily close, and the work crews also use the downtime to perform scheduled maintenance on the lifts.

So yes, the Alps are not at their best in April. To get more bang for your buck, you could try Luzern, or extend your time in Munich and take some daytrips to some interesting regional destinations, like Erding, Landshut, Regensburg, Burghausen, Passau, Chiemsee or Bodensee. Save the Alps for winter or summer.
