Anyone have a preference between the Hotel Blumenthal and the Eiger Guesthouse? Private bath is available at the Blumenthal. Would you suggest 3 or 4 nights? Gentle hiking and a trip up the Schilthorn is all that is planned. Most likely just local excursions. This would be for one teenager and his mother.
I can't comment on either that you listed. We stayed here http://www.ferntree.ch/chalet/fontana.htm There is a B and B and a separate apartment. We stayed in the apartment for 3 nights, but easily could have done 4. It was beautiful. We had a great time.
We booked Hotel Blumenthal for this September. It looks nice and it is reasonable. I have not seen many people on this forum comment on this hotel. But everyone seems to agree that Murren is a great place to stay!!!!!
We prefer Hotel Bellevue. But, we have not stayed in either Blumenthal or Eiger to offer an opinion.
Hiking the Blumenthal trail is quite nice ;)

I remember the Eiger Guesthouse having lots of narrow steep stairs making luggage difficult to maneuver.
The Blumenthal is located in the center of town just next door to Edys Knife shop which is next to the Chalet Fontana. Up the hill directly behind the Fontana is hotel Bellevue with the village’s one and only public laundry facilities.
There are many nice hotels in Murren and you can look at them and read reviews on TripAdvisor
We stayed at Eigers Guest House a few years ago. It was fine, the rooms were small but clean and the staff very friendly. However, the bar stayed open later so there was some noise in the evening and the hotel is right across the road from the train station which provides some early wake up noise for light sleepers. So, we would not head back there unless other places were booked. I have not stayed at your other option.
Thanks for the advice, Decisions!
We stayed at the Alpenrue and were very pleased with it. tremendous view from our bed to all of the mountains, great deck, very good service. private bath.
We haven't stayed at either of the hotels you're asking about but we've eaten at the restaurant at the Eiger Guesthouse several times and enjoyed it very much. We've stayed at the Hotel Alpenruh twice and at the Hotel Jungfrau once - highly recommend both of them! Spend as much time in this area as you can. There are many hiking opportunities and it's just beautiful. Love Murren!
