Murren & BO: clothing tips for hiking & packing light

Hey fellow travelers.

Looking for tips to pack light/carryon. The challenge: A variety of cold to hot climates (Berner Overland to Venice) in early June. Did I say some light to medium hiking too!? :) Yes, that too.

Keeping an eye on the weather but expecting it all: rain, maybe snow, and hopefully sun for some moderate to light hiking and also visits to the top o' the mountains. After four nights in Murren we are heading to Bavaria and then Dolomites for more hiking and finally ending/flying out of Venice. I'm feel confident for all the stops except for the extreme for Murren. Like, do you need/is it worth it to bring hard core coats, etc. if you just pop up for a short visit to the top of the mountains?

I'm thinking wool leggings, rain pants, waterproof hiking shoes, layers on top to keep warm and dry. Would appreciate your thoughts. Ack! I really want to go carryon to keep my record going. I know! Hubris! Is it crazy to try?

Thanks!

In June it's typically in the 40s-60s. You don't need a winter coat, but you should be prepared for rain. Even for places like Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn, layers will be fine, as you're not spending hours up there. We spend our summers living in Murren and no matter what time of year it is, as long as you have layers you can handle just about anything there. I don't like taking up space in my luggage with coats, so I just bring shirts and sweatshirts and layer if it gets particularly cold.
