Murren and area this August 23-25: what outerwear need?

We'll be staying in Murren three nights on the RS Germany,Switzerland,Austria trip. We'll be there August 23-25. I know the temps are much cooler there than the other places we'll be going to, and probably similar to our Rocky Mtns here in Colorado. What type of outerwear will we need there?

It’s not always cold - in the high altitude sun it can feel like the 90s and at night it can feel like the 30s - shorts, tshirts, sunhat, pants, sweatshirts and a jacket. If you plan to spend much time outside in the evening you may appreciate a warm hat. Right now I’m sweating and baking in the sun here at 10:30 in the morning. The other day I was chilly in a sweatshirt :)

A light rain jacket is a good idea to have handy. Rain can come up fast, and go the same way.

We’re in Wengen right now and it’s 79 degrees which is very warm in the high alpine sun. It’s only getting down into the mid fifties at night. There’s a lot of people in shorts and tank tops hiking.

I always take the same things when we go to Switzerland. The last few years it has been very warm in August, even in the evening in Mürren, and pretty similar in September. So I always have a mix of shorts, capris, and long pants (maybe 1-2 pairs each), long and short-sleeved tops, and always a light fleece for warmth if needed, and a rain jacket (essential). We are hikers and mostly spend our days doing that. Generally I bring the long-sleeved shirts home unworn, but you never know.

So to answer the question asked, for outerwear I would always include a good rain jacket and a light fleece jacket, just in case.

It looks like the rest of your trip you may be at lower altitudes where it will be warmer, but it still could rain at any time.
