Muottas muragl near St Moritz

Next month we will be visiting St Moritz on the Bernina Express as part of a day trip from Milan. I noticed that there is a funicular not too far away which goes to the top of a mountain called Muottas Muragl. It looks interesting and the view must be incredible at the top.

My question concerns being able to make this journey when we have only about 3 1/2 hours in St Moritz. There is an eight minute bus ride to the bottom of the funicular and the travel to the top takes ten minutes.

Does anyone who has taken this trip before think we can do it in such a small window of time?

Thank you for your help.

That funicular has a short season. It will not be running from 23 October onwards (and that is an improvement vs. a few years ago when it would stop sometime in September IIRC). If your trip is on the 22nd or earlier, it is definitely worth it! I think you have enough time. The views are great and there are some mild hiking paths (made more strenuous than they seem due to the altitude!).
You can skip St Moritz itself (it's not very pretty, the buildings are mostly big palace hotels and charmless concrete boxes) and visit Pontresina instead. Thanks to the slightly shorter train ride you'd have 4 hours available instead of 3.5. It is a very quick bus or train ride away from the bottom of the funicular. Note that besides the bus, two train stations on different branches serve the funicular; Punt Muragl and Punt Muragl Staz. It does not matter which one you use.
