Hello all! We are flying into Munich and out of Zurich in May. The current itinerary is a few days in Munich, then off to Salzburg. From Salzburg after a few days to Vienna for one day to visit friends. We planned to fly from Vienna to Zurich to then train to Wengen for five days, go to Lucerne for 2 and then to Zurich to fly home. Should I go to Vienna directly from Munich and then off to Salzburg instead? Or leave as it is so I can go from Vienna to the BO? I want to minimize travel though I know there will be a particularly long travel day getting to Wengen. Thanks!
If you go Munich > Vienna > Salzburg > Wengen > Zürich you will not need to fly, but you will face a ~4 hour journey after you land in Munich. If your flight to Munich is reasonably short, it's no big deal, but if you've been flying for 12+ hours already, it's annoying.
If you go from Vienna to Wengen, you technically don't need to fly either but it's a very long train ride so I would fly to Zürich. I like to avoid flying in the middle of a vacation (and to reduce flying as much as possible), but your opinion may vary.
I think it sounds good, since you want a few days in Munich, working towards Vienna then hopping to Switzerland seems a reasonable plan.
For this trip it would actually have been better to fly in to Vienna, and then do Vienna - Salzburg - Munich - Wengen - Zurich. Al the segments are then easily doable by train.
Yes, I wish I had flown into Vienna. That was a later opportunity that I added. But, I dis get a killer deal on my flights. :)
