Munich to Lauterbunnen

This is my 1st attempt at traveling in Europe. Me and my wife to be are flying into Prague and flying out of Barcelona. We starting in Prague for a couple day then taking the bus to Munich. We are going to see one day of Oktoberfest and a day checking out Munich's sights.
I am having troubles planning the Munich to lauterbunnen stretch of the trip.

We want to see Bavaria. We where thinking of going to Fussen. Then traveling thru Lucerne and on to Lauterbunnen. I think we are giving ourselves 7 day and 6 night in the region. Wanted to see what experienced travelers think is the best us of our time in the region.

I was thinking train to Fussen and stay the night see the sights. then on to Lucerne for stay 2 night then The rest of the time spent in Lauterbunnen.

I also wanted to get insight on train Vs car in the region. I have read that in Switzerland cars are a bad idea. I was just wondering is renting an car in Munich and driving thru Bavaria to Lucerne would be more scenic and flexible or is the train the way to go.
thank for the input.

If you wanted to rent a car in Munich and drive to Fuessen and then the Swiss border, that would be fine. Just turn the car in before you cross into Switzerland. There are very high international drop fees. The car with German license plates can't be rented in Switzerland and must be transported back to Germany and guess who pays for that. Also, you would need to purchase a Swiss vignette (toll sticker).
So you could drop the car in Lindau or Konstanz and head to Luzern on the train from there.
