I’m looking to book a train from Munich Germany to Lucern midweek.
When I google it a few different sites pop up and I’m not sure which site to use.
Also not sure if I should book all the way to Lucern or only to Zurich & then hop on a train when there. I know there are many throughout the day.
There are 6 of us traveling do we’d like to sit together if possible & we will have luggage with us.
I was also wondering if the Swiss 1/2 Fair Pass would work when traveling from Germany to Switzerland.
Thanks so much for the advice.
Google will send you people that pay them to list them first, and usually they are rip off artists.
Book here: https://int.bahn.de/en
They operate the trains. You can book all the way to Luzern. Should be an EC train to Zurich, then change to an IR train to Luzern.
If you buy Super Spapreis Europa Gruppe tickets, the Swiss Half Fare Card will not help with the type of ticket. Only full fare tickets give that discount, but then you will pay a lot more for those types of tickets.
Thank You for the info. I went in the BAHN website. The cost of the train was almost double compared to other sites I was on.
I believe the OMMI site was almost half the price.
What is your travel date, and how much was OMMI quoting? If a 3rd party site is offering half of what the train operator is offering, I would be a tad suspicious.
We land Monday 9/23 and will be in my icy for 2 days. We plan to head to Lucern on the Wednesday 9/25. There are 6 of us traveling so that was why I wanted to reserve in advance so we could sit together.
Could I wait and book in person on the day we land?
Thanks you again for information. I appreciate it.
The longer you wait, the higher the price you will pay (in general). Are all 6 adults (over 15 yo)?
Right now, I see a price of 239.40 EUR total for 6 adults if you take the 6:54 am departure, or 269.40 EUR for the 2:54 pm departure. All other are in the 455 EUR range. Tickets come with seat reservations for the Munich-Zurich leg.
Yes, all 6 travelers are over 15.
I just looked on the SBB (Swiss railway) app and it said to expect high occupancy in both 1st and 2nd class because of Oktoberfest, and this was for a train from Munich to Zurich on September 25.
I often use the Trainline app to book international train trips. Also, there are Flixbus buses between Munich and Zurich as another travel option.
