Multigenerational large group family trip to Switzerland in July 2026

We are a large family of 16 traveling together to Europe in July 2026. We will be spending a week in Lake Maggiore, Italy. We would like to add on about 3-4 days in Switzerland. The ages of our travelers range from 13-77. If anyone has any specific reccomendations on parts of Switzerland we should go to/ must see, that would be helpful in our planning. We are hoping to find a multi-city/region private tour for all of us. Does anyone have any reccomendations for tour companies or tour guides?

We have successfully traveled to the following countries in the past: Tuscany and Rome, Italy, Greece, London, Ireland, France, and Panama. We are well traveled and understand the complexities of traveling as a large group.

I appreciate all of your suggestions, tips, and reccomendations.

Thank you and have a great day.

Are you planning to travel to Switzerland by train, as a group and meet up with a guide for a tour? A "multi-city/ region tour"might look much like what Rick Steves tours do except their Swiss one runs 12 days. If you have 4 days, to me means you would spend 5 nights. At best you can cover two locations.

Perhaps spend some time with Rick Steves videos and figure out a location or two that appeal to your group. He often has local tour guides listed in his book, so that may be a source. You could travel from Lago Maggiore either to Lugano or the Jungfrau Region as a group fairly easily. The Jungfrau Region -- staying in Mürren, Wengen or Lauterbrunnen -- could entertain you for a week if you like hiking, cycling, and beautiful cable cars rides and views. Might not even need a guide. Depends, of course on what your group likes to do.

Do you know what city you will fly out if after this segment? Might influence your decision.

3-4 days isn’t enough time to do a multi city tour. Head to Luzern and stay there the whole time. Use it as a base to explore around that region - historic city center, boat ride on Lake Luzern + trip up to Rigi, possible day trip to Stoos if you have keen hikers in your group to do the Stoos Ridge hike (those not wanting to hike can still enjoy the funicular & cable car rides and then hang out at the berg restaurant to enjoy the views while others hike) and perhaps if you want to see another city, a day trip to Bern.

If you want to move around in Switzerland, you really need a minimum of a week. Perhaps you could take a few days off your stay on Lake Maggiore if it’s important for you to do a whirlwind tour through multiple parts of Switzerland.

All that wanderweg says! We have taken the scenic trains around Switzerland. This takes more time than your mentioned. It is fabulous. But…we love Luzern and have spent time there twice! We also travel with our family group and yes… there is so much to see and do from Luzern and area! Mt. Riga was a favorite!
