We are staying 4 nights in Muerren. Would it be feasible and worthwhile to make a day trip to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn?
-Thanks
Actually while it may be a long way with train transfers it is a gd idea. The weather can be iffy in Zermatt. So u can pick your day based on weather forecast. We were there last summer and happily the weather was gd. It is a lovely town to stroll and then take the tram up to enjoy the view of matterhorn.
The summer before we were unable to go due to poor weather. So great plan and enjoy but watch the forecast bef u leave murren.
Wow, 3+ hours each way for a chance to see the Matterhorn? You better have a Swiss Pass.
I agree that the excursion would only be worthwhile with a good forecast. On the other hand, I would much rather spend a nice day on an alpine trail than on a train for 6 hours. If seeing the Matterhorn is important to you and the forecast is favorable, then maybe you could spend one night in Zermatt.
Actually it's closer to 4 hrs each way and there's no way I would travel 7-1/2-8 hrs just to see a mountain. Especially when I'm staying somewhere surrounded by mountains. Don't get me wrong I stayed in Zermatt and I loved it there and I really enjoyed going up the Gornergrat to see the astounding views of the Matterhorn, but I would never travel that far for the experience.
Murren and the Lauterbunnen Valley are already hands down the most beautiful destination in the world. Don't waste your time - enjoy where you already are!
I agree with Nancy and Tim. Don't do it!
Thanks to all the kind post! We will chill in Muerren and see Zermatt another trip.
