Hello i am seeking help planning where to base for 4 nights (Dec 27-31).
I have hotels reserved in all three mountain towns: Grindelwald, Wengen and Muerren.
we are a couple in our 30s
our interests are seeing Schilthorn, sledging, hiking, views, dining, sauna. No skiing for us.
we are then booked in Zurich for the 31st.
I am leaning towards Muerren but a bit nervous about crowds. I am leaning towards Muerren because from what I can tell it has good sledding and spas.
We stayed in Lauterbrunnen and visited other towns from there. Loved Wengen and Murren. Was turned off by touristy Grindelwald. We rented sleds in Murren and enjoyed "sledging", including sledging down to quaint Gimmelwald.
For Schilthorn, in general, mountain weather tends to be clear in the morning and can cloud up as the day progresses. Thus, it might make sense to stay in Murren to get that early start.
Have you planned some time in Luzern? If not, you might consider staying there instead of Zurich. You can train from Luzern directly to the Zurich airport.
