Mount titlis

Hello! I am intrigued by mount titlis and it’s activities for my children. (She’s 5,9 and 11) my concern is the temperature. We will not have room to pack winter clothing. I’ve heard you can rent? Anyone have experience with that? We have gloves and hat and can layer long sleeves and sweatshirts but I worry it’s not enough. Any thoughts?? Advice??

When we were there Sept, precovid, it was freezing. There was plenty of snow, and it wasn't melting. Also, there were no shoveled paths at that time, so one needed shoes for walking in about 12 inches of snow.
It is an amazingly beautiful vista, almost beyond words. We had the most spectacularly clear weather. And- there's the suspension bridge ......
I didn't see any clothing rentals, so I have no idea.
Hat, gloves, packable down coat, and a raincoat took care of us. If you're visiting the Alps, the packable down jackets come in handy for mornings and evenings.
I have no idea how long you will stay up there. I would say the most important item would be shoes that can handle snow. Textile athletic shoes wouldn't .
Have a wonderful adventure!

Would it still be worth it in your opinion to make the journey to titlis but not go to the top? It seems there are lots of nice family hikes and little kid activities? Perhaps then we can avoid the cold I just wonder if that’s like getting so close to something amazing and not doing it! (But still paying the prices and making the journey….) 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

In my humble opinion, go to the top! Have you looked at the suspension bridge? I bet your children will love walking on the bridge, over the canyon!

I appreciate your advice! We’re already on holiday so I can’t change what I packed! That’s my issue! No snow boots here.

I wouldn't say you had to have snow boots, but bring a second pair to the summit, in case the first pair becomes wet with the snow. Perhaps wear shoes that are leather, not made of fabric, for the snow. Especially if you are going to hike at lower altitudes later, you don't want wet shoes. Good luck !

Thank you all for your help! The rental place on titlis emailed back. They rent boots for 10chf and jackets or pants for 25chf. So pricey but we may still go and take on a when in rome mentality 🤷🏻‍♀️

For those of you curious, we went to titlis today and it was AMAZING!!! we rented boots for kids and jackets for kids. I probably could have layered them enough and not needed the coats but the boots were really helpful. We paid 77 chf total for 4 pairs of boots and 3 jackets. Yes it’s a lot but man was it worth it!!

Kids had a BLAST and played in snow for an hour.

Highly recommend. Then we went down to trubsee and they zip lined and we boated and hiked. Coolest day

Thank you everyone for your help!
We’re onto lauterbrunnan tomorrow for 4 nights!

That is so great to hear--wait till you get to Lauterbrunnen, it gets even better, if that is possible.

Ok that’s a big and excitement statement so I’ll bite - what’s your favorite lauterbrunnen spot?? My kids can’t imagine it gets any better!! We did Pilatus and titlis so I wonder how I’ll ever make the second part of the vacation compete 😜😜😜

Deborah, always nice to get feedback, so thanks for sharing. Mt. Titlus does not get as much attention here, and it's not in the RS guide book, even tho our RS tour went there pre-COVID. I do believe the Swiss tour has changed that part of the itinerary.
I think it's the elevation of Titlus and the suspension bridge that's so exciting. Did your kids go on the bridge? It's also not as commercialized as the Jungfraujoch.
We hiked down from the first stop, by the lake, and it took us about four hours downhill! Don't trust those Swiss signs, as we are not as fit as those Swiss grandmothers! ( That was a joke our RS guide alway made- he said the hike estimates were made by Swiss grandmothers, to humble us!)

Yes! My kids loved the ice cave and the suspension bridge! (My five year old was a little scared since it sways but he still did it!) their favorite part was throwing snowballs down the mountain and playing in the snow! Then we had lunch inside while having incredible views.

When we went down to trusbee, there was a bouncy castle, a free jump, a trampoline (all free) and a zip line (12chf) my five year old didn’t weigh enough for the zip line but my 76 year old parents did it with my big kids!

Then there were free rowboats which everyone loves and an amazing playground. We had planned to do the two mile hike around the lake but ran out of time and energy. Overall incredible day and I highly recommend the trip to titles
