Hello - I'm arriving in Luzern at 2:30 PM on 9/8/16. Thought I'd spend the rest of the day looking around the city, spend the night, and then leave in the morning on the train to Murren. Some have suggested spending another day going to Mt. Pilatus, which would give me a different experience than Murren. If I do that I'd have 3 nights in Murren rather than 4. I wonder if I'll see better mountain views in Murren and should skip Mt. Pilatus. Another consideration is cost - Its 72 swiss francs to go up Mt . Pilatus, plus costs to get there from Luzern. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Pilatus is minimal compared to being in Murren in the middle of the Swiss Alps in the Berner Oberland. Murren is an alpine village with real villagers and real homes and real life going on all around and located in one of the most breathtaking areas in the world. You should probably invest in the Swiss Half Fare card if you're going to do these travels in Switzerland.
I am in switzerland now and visited mt pilatus last week.
No question in my mind Murren is terrific. I stayed in the berner oberland area and enjoyed it the most. Skip pilatus or maybe visit if u get to Luzern someday.
Do not detour from MUrren.
Thanks for the replies. I've decided to skip Mt. Pilatus on this trip and spend the additional night in Murren.
Mürren. Consider Hotel Alpenruh for some wonderful views from your very own balcony.
I can't think of a hotel in Murren that doesn't have a view. If you want a balcony perched directly on the granite cliff overlooking the balcony then look at Hotel Alpina or Hotel Edelweiss. Alpenruh is a nice hotel, too. In fact - most hotels in Murren are pretty amazing.
