Hello fellow travelers,
I think I've found a quiet place for 3 nights in Montreux in June 2027 where I can open the windows for a nice breeze. Now I'm wondering if there are mosquitos in Montreux in June?
I was there July last year, and I did not notice any mosquitoes really.
I’ve been to Switzerland twice in June and have never seen bugs.
I know it’s a hot topic lately but I’ve never had issues with bugs on any of my trips.
Thanks! I'll take that off my worry list, haha.
We stayed in St.Prex a few summers ago in September on Lake Geneva (near Montreux) and the mosquitos were quite bad around the lake foliage.
Personally if I were staying in Montreux in the summer I’d go for AC if it was an option. We had fans, but it was regularly in the 90s for our 2 week stay and it was a little rough sometimes without AC and with mosquitos.
You can definitely have mosquitoes from late spring until October or even November here in Switzerland. But, my own experience of 8+ years of living here year round is that the main ‘nuisance period’ has consistently been August - October, or even into early November. That is when we put up or mosquito net (screens on windows are not very common here). My husband is basically a mosquito magnet, so we are acutely aware of when the net becomes a necessity.
This might explain why Carrie (June holidays) has had a very different experience from Wanderweg (September holiday).
So far I have seen a few mosquitoes, but nothing that has caused us to close our windows at night - it is far too hot for that right now! Since your planned holiday will be June '27, there is a good chance you will be gone before the mosquitoes become a nuisance.
Thanks Wanderweg and SwissNomad!
It sounds like I might be safe from mosquitos in Montreux in June 2027. I've booked a lovely B&B with a view of the lake, terrace, and fans. Here's hoping I don't wish for A/C and closed windows!
