More places consider Venice-like fees

Hope you can read this. I don’t think it is behind the paywall. https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/life-aging/swiss-village-of-lauterbrunnen-mulls-venice-style-tourist-entry-charge/77700618?utm_campaign=top_en&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_content=o&utm_term=automatic

FYI, I find a subscription to “The Local” very interesting. One subscription allows you to access the countries of your choice and you can change as your interests and travel plans change,

Thank you for the article, Laurel - it came up, easy to read. Lots of places are tourism hotspots, but the smaller the location, the bigger impact from visitors. Trash and litter? That’s a problem, regardless of the number of selfie-takers. Venice is losing its resident population, which makes the overtourism numbers even higher. Wow, places in Thailand are really getting overwhelmed. Is that from proximity to China?

Thanks to Carrie, I now realize this article was not from “The Local,” LOL! I guess I have too many feeds! Swiss Info is a good site, too, and free.

Interesting. I wondered why I am seeing Iseltwald on so many itineraries recently. As for Valle Verzasca, I will “take the pledge” and stop suggesting it.

It's also on the CNN homepage, the comments are kinda nasty. Frankly if you can't or won't pay 10 francs to visit Lauterbrunnen, just don't go.

Lola, I fear I have contributed to recommending some places a bit too much myself.

I am always confused at whether these villages actually want to curb the amount of tourists or just want revenue. If you really don't want daily car tourists, make the fee 100CHF a day. 5CHF won't stop anyone from coming.

I feel the same way about people who damage sights with graffiti. Slap a couple of $5,000 fines and spread the word. People might think twice about carving their initials or doing some other graffiti.
