Some issues with our Locarno booking popped up, which prompted me to re-start my search for accommodations in the Locarno area. As part of that research, I ran across several posts (RS, TA, elsewhere) about Morcote, which looks like it could be an interesting alternative to Locarno/Ascona, although it does seem that it would require more effort to connect the dots. If anyone has experience with Morcote and would be willing to share their experience in the village, I would be much obliged.
Hi
Have you considered Lugano as an alternative to Locarno? We visited both Locarno and Morcote from our base in Lugano. We took the ferry to Morcote, a beautiful journey in itself. Morcote is a small, pretty village along the lakeside, we were there in early May and just a few restaurants and cafes were open. We took the train to Locarno and honestly were underwhelmed, probably not helped by the rain.
We like Lugano a lot, a ‘real’ town , plenty accommodation choices, restaurants, beautiful lake side for strolling and you can get the train straight to/from Milan Airport .
