Three things:
Castle Chillon is nearby, very interesting to tour.
Big statue of Freddie Mercury on the promenade by the lake.
By all means, walk along the promenade and enjoy the beautiful flowers.

Perhaps you will have time on arrival or departure day to see Chillon and can take a train up the mountain for a hike on your full day--is this what you mean by outdoor activities?
