Montreux

We will be in Montreux this October. Any hotel recommendations would be greatly appreciated - $$ or &&&. Also any suggestions for tours from Montreux to Gruyeres - Chocolate train does not run in October.
Thx, Jim S.

It's Switzerland, it's all $$$, lol. I enjoyed the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic--fantastic location (across street from train station), view, and breakfast--which appears to be quite a bargain when perusing the options.
Rooms are small, so your "we" may be important. We were two, and small, and one was working all day, so all good.

The train from Montreux to the Maison Collier chocolate factory was very easy with a couple changes. And then there was a bus to Gruyère that’s close to Collier. Just have the SBB app. We did both the Lindt, near Zurich, and the Collier tours and I preferred the Collier.

I love Montreux! We usually stay at the quirky Hotel Splendid Montreux. Short walk to the train station. Views of Lake Leman and the mountains of France from the balcony is beautiful. Especially at sunset.

If you enjoy wine, you can visit the vineyards of the Lavaux region (just west of Montreux). Sitting on the sloped vineyards overlooking the vines that stretch almost to the lake, the terrace at Domaine Croix Duplex is breathtaking.

You can also visit Lausanne (Olympic Museum). In Montreux you can visit the band Queen's former recording studio housed in the Casino and walk the riverside promenade. Nearby is Chateau de Chillon. Another cool place to visit is Glacier 3000. On a clear day, from the Peak Walk Suspension Bridge you can see many famous mountain peaks including the Matterhorn. Visiting Broc (chocolate factory) and Gruyeres (cheese factory and walled town) is easy by train.

Have fun!

Another vote for the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic.

I stayed there in 2022 and 2024. Get a room with a lake view. They remodeled sometime in between my visits, so all the rooms are nice and updated. And also more expensive.

As far as ideas from Montreux, my two trip reports detail what I did.
